I had decided on Affiliate marketing, as I perceived that it is one of the most effective and easiest ways of earning some money online. An affiliate program gives everybody a chance to make a profit through the Internet. Since these affiliate marketing programs are easy to join, implement and pay commission on a regular basis, more and more people are now willing to undertake this type of business.

Like all businesses, there are lots of pitfalls. When I started thinking about affiliate marketing on the web, I was aware that the same pitfalls exist on the web as the do in the tangible world.

Rule Number 1: Choose the right affiliate product or program.

When people decide to go with an affiliate program or product they want to earn from affiliate marketing as fast as possible. Normally in their rush to be a part of one, they tend to choose a bandwagon product. It’s true especially where affiliate marketing is concerned. The technique is to do it slowly but surely. There is really no need to rush into things. I think affiliate marketing is here to stay at least for the foreseeable future.

Rule Number 3: Buy the product or use the program.

As an affiliate, your main purpose is to sell the product effectively and convincingly, promote the product or service and find customers. In order for you to achieve this you must understand the customer experience. I have tried some in the past and discounted them because I could see that the customer experience was poor. That his how I ended up with my chosen affiliate products and program.

Trying the product or service personally before you sign up as an affiliate. See if it delivers what is promised. In a lot of affiliate programs you can manage to do this for free. If you can’t then be careful you may just be there next customer. Having done so you will now be aware if it is credible and of it’s advantages and disadvantages. You will automatically convey this understanding in your sales literature or adverts to your customers believe me they can tell.

I am not saying in this article that I have all the answers, but I have got the experience and it is only in affiliate marketing to date that I have made any money. You are probably wondering what I chose? Well after the research, planning etc… I opted for Click Bank and the sales of Clickbank products. I chose to go with a Clickbank market program where the products are kept up to date as new Clickbank products are added. I wanted a program where the hottest Clickbank products are presented on a professional market website and there was the possibility for me to make money on both products and the affiliate program itself. One of the selling points of the house we just moved into was the fact that all new carpets had been fitted within the last year. Excellent, that’s a cost I won’t have for a few years. So many times you hear that people have had to make a major spend on flooring when moving house.

Most of the rooms downstairs are fitted with carpet, although the hallway has a wooden parquet floor with a small carpet rug matching the stair carpet. All the bedrooms had fitted carpet, the bathrooms all tiled, had vinyl interlock flooring that made it look like they were stone tiles, they matched perfectly with the tiling on the walls.

The only thing that I was going to have to do was re-decorate some of the rooms downstairs to our taste. It was only when we talked about our taste in the dinning room I noticed that it also had a wooden parquet floor, that’s two in the house. It had obviously not seen polish or cleaning for some years and we discussed covering it with a carpet.

I suggested to my wife that before we did that I could call on some advice from a local flooring company I knew, who offered flooring services as part of the business offering. I called Shorefloors Ltd in West Moors, Dorset and asked if they had someone who could pop round and advise me on my two wooden floors.

It wasn’t long before the chap from Shorefloors knocked at the door, and on entering remarked on the fact that the hallway was indeed a wooden parquet floor of some quality and that it would be expensive to buy a floor like that today. On looking at the floor in the dining room his remarks were much the same with some additional comments about skimming buffing and polishing to bring them back to their full…"Hang on a minute he said. We are now in process of having the floors maintained to bring them back to their former glory.

Anyone, who has been interfacing with the web for years, and bulletin boards before that, has probably become anaesthetized to the problems that the majority of the worlds public have when accessing the Internet. As I have.

A single case in point was a conversation I had the other day with just such a person. He’s reasonably intelligent, has a good job and uses the Internet occasionally for varying reasons. He is not what you would call an IT person although he is computer literate. I asked him a simple question, expecting a simple answer, which was not forthcoming. Then I realized. I wish I hadn’t asked the question in the first place…(Do no what I mean.)

Have you ever asked someone the question what do you want? Of course you have, I am sure everyone on the planet has at some time or other. Just to paint the picture this conversation took place during an evening in the pub when we had drunk a couple of beers and were discussing the finer points of the Internet. (Yes, you’ve seen and heard them….)

So I said, “What is it, that you want?” he answered flippantly “I want to be a tree... ha ha”
“No, seriously?” I said. Looking at me square in the eyes he replied “I want to successfully shop online.” I pointed out that it is easy enough, and anyone can do it. He said, “Yes, I know that, I do it, but I can never find what I’m looking for in one place.”

I suggested the use of a search engine. Before I had finished the word engine he retorted “Oh yea, right, and end up with 1,200,000 pages of information overload. That’s not what I want”. I quickly pointed out that you could filter that by refining his search parameters. He looked with techno babble glazed eyes and said “Yes, yes, but I don’t have time, what I want is to shop at an internet site which is product category sensitive, that displays the top product from the category I select not as a list but visually, with a clear and concise description and price. I want to see products not just from Click bank, but also from Amazon and any others that might be relevant. Oh, and of course, I want to see anything that might be available from ebay, just in case I can get it cheaper.

Wow…The conversation stalled, as he tried to remember what he had just said, because it sounded good. My brain went into deep thought fuelled by further alcohol, what term was it…product category sensitive shopping. That’s a new one on me, and it got me thinking. I don’t remember much about the rest of the evening, apart from the fact that it was a good one. The following morning all I remembered was ‘Product Category Sensitive Shopping’, ‘PCSS’ I thought, for short. Was it just the ramblings of alcohol or does it really exist….

I began my search on the Internet for just that. It occurred to me that he wasn’t asking for anything that he couldn’t get in the real world. After all, if you go into a store you will see a list of categories Men’s ware, Children’s Clothes etc… displayed clearly for all to see. You know that if you follow the directions for Men’s Wear that you will be presented with products that men wear.

All he was asking for in a shopping website, was a site with the same facility. After many hours of surfing and with somewhat bleary eyes, I realized that I had failed him. I could not find a site that he described. I could hear in my head, his derision at my failure. I continued to search…

I eventually arrived at a site that stopped me in my tracks. I just sat there, stunned, my determination had paid off. All I could see was the logos of Google+ClickBank+ebay+amazon +other affiliates. Was I going to enjoy telling him this!

As with all silver linings it started to fade when I read the next paragraph on the page. It read “Who else wants their own professionally designed multi-lingual web site package that’s stuffed with over 90 instant niche pages and thousands of the webs hottest products, set-up absolutely free, so you can make money online today?”

As I continued to read the landing page, I realized that this was ProfitMart offering a fully configurable website. Do I really want to get into this? Well he’s a good buddy and so I signed up. Some days later I would introduce him to a website called WebStoreShop, even he would remember that name. Yes, it offers exactly what he wanted Product Category Sensitive Shopping. You select the category on the left and the top products for that category are displayed on the page from ClickBank, Amazon, and other affiliates and of course at the bottom of the page ebay. They are displayed with pictures, a description and a price. Job Done!

As I explained it to him, he looked mildly impressed and happy. I thought he had got what he wanted and if I make a few bucks in the process then I am happy too.

The decision as to what type of flooring came easily and I was happy with my decision to use vinyl tiles. However, I was not prepared for the question of how I would like to complete the desired effect on my floor. When you are not a flooring expert, this question can seem to be nonsense, because to me the obvious answer was that once the vinyl tiles were laid wall to wall that was the effect that I wanted to achieve.

“Not so” said the Shorefloors salesman, “there are any number of effects that we can incorporate into your vinyl tile floor. We call them strips and they are placed between tiles to create a natural or grouting effect or to enhance the overall design of your floor.”

It transpired that there are design strips, feature strips and metallic strips. There are borders in the form of tramline decorative or custom-made borders. As if that wasn’t enough, some manufacturers have a complete range of borders in the form of an assortment of standard decorative tiles. These themselves can be subtle light tones to distinct colour contrasts.

Anyone reading this article without reading part one, will probably wonder what I am babbling about. So, just to recap. During the process of buying vinyl flooring, I had been asked the question of how I would like to complete the desired effect on my floor, not being a flooring expert, this question had seemed to me to be nonsense. Borders were described to me as a way of adding personality to the floor. I think I commented something along the lines “that I wanted to walk on it, not get to know it” Needless to say borders appeared to be available in a wide range of colours and designs.

Tramline Borders

A simple and affordable way, to create an attractive and decorative edge around your floor. Tramlines are easily chosen and can be made up of a combination of designs.

Decorative Borders

These borders are more ornate and more complex in design. Certainly they add a great deal of style to your new floor.

Custom Made Borders

Knowing that a Karndean vinyl floor can have both personality and style by the inclusion of borders it should come as no surprise to learn that the expense of a custom made border makes it unique and individual.

My final decision was based on my original reasoning of cost and value for money. Do you know what I chose?

I can now answer the original question Do you know how to complete the desired effect for your floor? Yes, I would like a tramline border with two close lines surrounding the whole floor.

I want to lose weight

There’s a millions articles on how to lose weight, but few offer what this article will offer you the way to achieve it. I want to lose weight, and having read many articles on diets and weight loss I am even more confused than when I started. Articles such as The fitness principles, Can home fitness getter better results faster, Life fitness treadmill and 2-Minute fitness are all valid articles.

However, after different levels of success with low carb, low calorie and low fat diets, I wanted to find some sort of weight loss program, which would lose the weight and keep it off. Over the years there are some tips that have paid off such as eating lots of vegetables and fruit, reducing alcohol intake to a minimum. Reducing alcohol intake had a tremendous effect, the less beer the less weight, but even that levels off. Stay away from junk food, again another good rule to live by but once you stay away from it and reap the initial benefits there isn’t much else. A female friend of mine started running, and what a difference as she progressed to about four to six miles a day. Certainly her weight dropped off, I thought, I used to run, I can do this. It always being prudent to ask your doctor before starting exercise, I went to see him.

On asking the question “Do you think I could start running again?” he replied “Good grief what do you want to do that for at your age”! Needless to say I was taken aback and then listened to twenty minutes on descriptions of non-impact exercise that could achieve the same but over a longer period. This led to calorie and alcohol unit counts for the next few weeks and in the end I wished I hadn’t asked the question.

Back to the drawing board…

Incidentally, do you know that exercise whilst reducing fat increases muscle mass and as a result starts to add weight, odd isn’t it? The one thing my doctor did impress on me was that it’s better to get the diet right before or at the same time as increasing exercise. What makes an Internet phenomenon?

A question probably asked by millions of people who have seen the advent of eBay, Google, youtube and the like. All of a sudden you notice that there is a new term being bandied about on the Internet MySpace. With a little research you can find out that it is a social networking website offering blogs, groups, music picture and videos. It’s interactive and can be described as a network of user submissions of all of the above. That it is headquartered in Santa Monica, California, is owned by News Corporation and employs over 300 staff.

Some maintain that it is currently the fourth most popular English language website and the sixth most popular website in any language. Although there are a number of similar websites MySpace seems to have gained more popularity that most. Why?

Because of its popularity it attracts more visitors than its contemporaries and is reported to have over one hundred and six million accounts. That is what I call an Internet phenomenon.

Who are these millions of account holders? They are musicians, filmmakers, celebrities, and comedians who upload songs, short films, and other work directly onto their profiles or they are simply Joe Public who publishes their personal blog which their friends and loved ones then log into and read. I personally have first hand experience of listening to a young and new band called “Fitzpain” you can find them by searching in MySpace Music.

However I digress, it would appear that now having a cute MySpace layout is all important if your going to impress. In order to achieve this you need to learn a few new skills. How to incorporate glitter graphics. How to upload your favourite music. You will need to learn all the new terms like what is meant by “pimping”, “friends” and “trains”. You will need to know how to change your layout, colours and theme. Eventually to create such an attractive and cute MySpace layout that people can’t help visiting it and recommending it to their friends.

The registration process is easy and only requires you to put in basic information about yourself.

I had always believed that you could sell and buy anything on ebay. However, after reading this page I now appreciate that this is not true and there are a number of items, which may not be sold. This question dawns on the Internet marketer over a period of months. It is normally prompted by a partner or loved one who has watched you working away on your computer trying various Affiliate programs, High Yield investment programs, On-line shops etc… and asks “How much have you made?” or “How much have you lost?”

I know it well and you will reply with that filibustering technique we all perfect, “oh I’ve made a bit” or “I don’t think I’ve lost much, but it’s turning around”. Whilst at the back of your mind a nagging question is posed “How much?”, “How do I know?” and “Am I accountable?”

In this article we will cover the basics of what you need to do at the start up of your Internet marketing activities. Identify when you should start to record your losses and earnings, I say losses first because I have yet to meet anybody who started out on the Internet making a profit from day one.

I don’t profess to be an accountant, but having been in business for some years in the real world it struck me early on in my internet business life that I should be able to account for what I spending and what I am earning. Accounting that terrible term that has a tendency to switch people off and automatically recall ranking accountants along with Bank managers and Estate Agents.

However, a necessary evil and even more so if you are involved in an Internet business regardless of size. You must record your outgoings (investments) and your incomings (earnings). It is no good being in denial that your Internet business activities are so small that it doesn’t matter. The TAX man will tell you different.

Needless to say, you can employ an accountant, buy an accounting or book keeping product, all of this will cost you money and we want to start accounting for it not spend more at this time. Most people have a spreadsheet and this should be your first tool for recording your outgoings and incomings. A simple format of a column and row Income page, and the same for outgoings. Prepare the bottom part of the worksheet for incomings. Be prepared for the SHOCK… I did not realise how much I had lost until I performed this exercise. It was only after this that I realised that I had to concentrate on being responsible for the accounting of my internet activities and that no one else but me was accountable.

I wonder how many of you reading this have just realised that fact. Whilst it is not as important if you are constantly spending on the Internet. It becomes very important if you are deriving income. You must account for how much, from where and where does it go.

For those of you who are involved with programs that do not allow methods that artificially generates clicks or impressions. It can be hard to find a way of generating traffic that can be considered to be REAL TRAFFIC.

Traffic methods that include repeated manual clicks or impressions, incentives to click or to generate impressions that use traffic robots, automated click and some impression generation tools will cause you problems. Even third-party services that generate clicks or page impressions such as paid-to-click, paid-to-surf, autosurf, and click-exchange programmes can be considered invalid traffic or even fraudulent clicks.

The problem is that any of the above will be generated via a traffic program, the source of which can be traced to that program and then classified as above.

After searching through many methods there would appear to be only two ways that I have found that can guarantee valid and legal clicks that provide real traffic.

The first method is via context sensitive advertising which is keyword rich and will get you found in the search engines, this in itself generates traffic directly from the IP address of a computer somewhere in the world and is not tied to any traffic generation program. Therefore a real valid visitor.

The second method is by employing the use of peer to peer traffic generation. Right! I hear some of you say what is that?

Peer to Peer – A way of communicating via hardware or software with a specific person(s) with the same means of communication.
(note: for those techie’s who are reading this, simplistic I know, but I didn’t want to get into client/server or layers)

In the instance of traffic generation it is normally accomplished by installing software on your system. This is also installed on all other systems within the peer group. When you view another’s web site via the software he is hit by an IP address of a computer somewhere in the world and is not tied to any traffic generation program. Therefore a real valid visitor.

My first experience of such a system was called “FlowKing” which was working well and was free to use, but suddenly disappeared as quickly as it appeared. It wasn’t until it ceased to function that I realise how much I relied on it for traffic. Since then I have been looking for a replacement.

I have now found it and I have been testing it for the last couple of weeks. Its called Millionaire Dollar Traffic otherwise known as MDT, do not be fooled by the name. Even with the other components in place, unless you take the time to update your posts on a regular basis, you will not be getting optimum results. Dedication can help a lot. It can mask the fact that you are a beginner and allow you to create a profit producing and functional Internet Marketing blog. No matter how little experience you have simple dedication can take you a long way and you are learning all the time whilst building up your Internet Marketing activity. You can have a great blog as long as you take the time to commit to your latest Internet Marketing project.

Have you ever noticed that the toy displayed in the advert on TV is not the toy you buy in the shop? They show animation in 3D cartoon figures on the advert, yet when you buy it there’s no movement. I understand that it’s all a sham but four year olds don’t. They think that Darth Vader is real.

Have you ever noticed that the deodorant you buy does not get women running after you or that your car is not really a transformer robot????

The Internet is similar, in that just about every site that offers to sell you something, doesn’t actually tell you what it’s selling.

It’s site after site of what they do when they get up in the morning. How many minutes it takes them to make a zillion dollars before going to play golf on board their private jet. Oh and hey, don’t forget about the picture of the couple stood in front of the mansion with their Ferrari.

Or what about the site that says join me and I’ll show you how, I made a million dollars last year. I will mentor you. Follow my steps. It’s only when you get an email telling you that your moving so fast that they haven’t designed the next web page that you realise this is another virtual vapour site. When I started using Google adsense I did so by signing up with the Google Cash Machine. I found the information enthralling and couldn’t wait to get to the end and at last understand why numerous sites displayed Google ads. As I soaked up the information on how you can make money by displaying Google ads on your web site. I was introduced to terms like keyword generation, overture and adsense, adwords, site maps to name but a few.

As the realisation dawned that you can create webs sites, based on keywords that are specific to niche subjects, which will display content sensitive Google ads, which can then earn you money…boom it hit me like a bomb. It suddenly struck me that here was a complete new area of the web that I had not previously explored, and one that had more potential to make me money than any of those HYIP’s, MLM’s and web superstores.

With all new areas of potential home based Internet businesses you find yourself immersed in a waterfall of unknown words, terms and new areas of interest. It is not as simple as saying I now know what a keyword is, because then you suddenly realise that you have got to generate those keywords. That’s another new area keyword generation. The numbers were nothing to write about, but it did strike me as odd that back in the days when I put my first web site up I struggled to find a hit counter. Eventually I did, but here on my Google adsense report page was a comprehensive report of my site how many hits and page impressions received, you can even select a date range. However, I digress, rather than continuing to extol the virtues of Google adsense reporting tools this rather brings me to the point of this article.

And that is….

That even if I don’t make millions out of my new found knowledge and experience with Google ads I have found a great way of tracking page hits and impressions on any website I may create, with great reporting and best of all its Free.

As an Internet entrepreneur, you're more than likely aware of the ability of blogs to increase the bottom line of your e-business. Most everyone who sells online, either their product or someone else's, or runs a blog that they have monetized with ads from Google Adsense or some other source does some kind of blog advertising because it is free and eventually gets indexed by the search engines, especially when using Blogger.com blogs. However, there are a few ways that you can really use blogs to enhance your business online, and these tips can be used whether you are selling products on your own site or simply running your own monetized blog.

The first thing you need to think about when generating new blog entries is "how do people know that I have any/new content available here?" Luckily, most blog servers and software automatically create RSS site feeds (in the form of a file called atom.xml) that can be sent to the many RSS feed servers available online. Think of it is an announcement to the world through Really Simple Syndication that an update has been made to your blog and everyone should come and check it out. These updates are then posted on thousands of other websites and seen by people who are watching the site feeds for up to date news. This benefits you in two ways: First, it gets automatic traffic flowing into your site (you posted your web address in your blog post, didn't you?), and second many sites will carry your blog post creating one-way links to your web site. And just in case you don't know, one way links are the most powerful types of links to have.
However, doing so manually can be slow and extremely time consuming. There are many major RSS feeds available online, and posting your blog to each one each time can take forever.

Fortunately, there is an easy way to automate it; a little piece of software called RSS Announcer. (http://www.easyrssannouncer.com) To use this software all you do is point it to the URL of your atom.xml file (which is created automatically with virtually all blog software and can be found in your setup), choose which RSS feeds you want to post to, and hit a button. The rest is taken care of for you automatically, and your blog posts are then syndicated across many thousands of web sites. Do you think that might make a difference in the number of visitors to your site?

The next important part of running a blog is always having new and fresh content for visitors to check out. When someone comes to your site or your blog, you want them to keep coming back, and one of the best ways to do that is to constantly update content. The problem is that even the most prolific of writers can't write more than one or two articles a day, and if you start running several blogs the amount of writing can quickly become overwhelming. I have run as many as 18 blogs at a single time and there's no way I would ever be able to create enough new content to keep users coming back. This is especially important if your blogs are monetized with Adsense advertising. Let's say, for instance, that you run a blog about Home Mortgages because it is a subject you know a lot about and are passionate about. In order to produce income you include Adsense on your site, and visitors to your blog read not only your content, but also see ads relating to Mortgages. Some of these visitors are going to click on your ads and generate income for you. In fact, if you're really good, 20% or more of your visitors will click on an advertisement and put money in your pocket. Soon some money starts coming in and you decide to put up another blog about Refinancing. After a while the blog starts to take off, and more Adsense revenue starts rolling in. At some point, you will find yourself trying to run so many blogs that there is no way you can write enough content for each of them.

Fortunately, there's an answer for the problem as well. It comes in the form of a piece of software called RSStoBlog. (http://www.dimasenterprises.com/rsstoblog.html) RSStoBlog will automatically, on a schedule that you decide, post relevant content to your blogs either from News sources, RSS Feeds, or search engines. If you're running a blog about Mortgages, instead of constantly writing new content for your blog, you can automate the posting of Mortgage information to your blog every day, several times a day. How does this benefit you as a blog owner? First, it relieves the burden of having to come up with so much original content by yourself. Second, it will send a "ping" to all the blog directories on every new post alerting them of new content at your blog. Third, if you are running a website relating to your blog, you can post the URL's of different pages of your website in your blog content, and those pages will quickly be indexed by the various search engines.! Have you seen those advertisements about "get your site indexed in 3 days for only $XX"? That's how they do it: add your page to a blog and ping the directories. If you're unfamiliar with this technique it is called Blogging and Pinging, and it is great for getting sites quickly indexed. RSStoBlog lets you do this quickly and easily. For all that it does, RSStoBlog is very under priced. It is definitely worth checking out if you are serious about marketing your websites or monetizing your blogs.

The last problem I'd like to address is that of link building. We all know that one of the keys to a long term search engine optimization strategy is high quality link building. This can include reciprocal links, purchased one-way links with related web sites, or even free links with unrelated websites. Many search engine experts agree that having some links, even if they're from sites totally unrelated to your own, are better than no links at all. Links to your site are like "votes" that the search engines see as your site containing real content. I assume that the people who run search engines feel that someone who takes time to build links to their site actually wants the site to stick around a while. However, as usual, link building can take a long time if it is not automated in some way.

Now, you're probably scratching your head and wondering "what does that last paragraph have to do with blogs?" Well, once again a piece of software comes to our rescue to automate our link building. It is called Blog Link Generator (http://www.cheapbloglinkgenerator.com), and can be used to quickly create hundreds or thousands of one-way links from blogs relating to your website (or even your own blog). It does this by searching for blogs relating to keywords that you input, and automatically posting to those blogs with a message from you and a link to your website. You enter the keywords "car insurance" into the software, and it will search through many thousands of blogs relating to car insurance and on each of those blogs post a message from you saying something like "I really enjoy car insurance blog. This is a piece of software you can use as little or as much as you want. There is no shortage of blogs on just about any topic imaginable, so creating one-way links to your site or blog on nearly any subject becomes extremely easy. Believe me when I say that you will quit before the software does. So as you can see, there are several ways you can add to the power of blogs to bring more revenue to your e-business. Like much in life, building a home-based business is cyclical. It's like taking a ride in a roller coaster. You start on the ground, go slowly up in the air, and then when you reach the top, fall down the other side at dizzying speed until you're back on the ground again. Just like a roller coaster, the uphill part of building your business can seem painfully slow. It's almost as if you have to push the carriage up the slope yourself. But at the top you reach a point called the Tipping Point. That's the point when you don't have to push any more. The hard work is done. You can just sit back and enjoy the ride downhill. So, get ready for the ride of your life as I show you the 6 phases of the Home Biz Roller Coaster.

1. Getting Off The Ground. Don't believe the hype that surrounds a lot of home-based businesses. There is no such thing as instant success. The truth is, you can't succeed in phase one. It's practically impossible. Why? Because you don't know enough yet. But don't worry. This is the phase where you're going to do all your learning. And remember, we often do our best learning by failing. So, in this first phase, be ready for a few uncomfortable bumps. Insulate yourself against them - perhaps by keeping on that full-time job - and be encouraged that, once you get past this phase, there's no getting off: you're already a success in the making!

2. Identify The Opportunities. In phase one, you'll have learnt what works, and what doesn't work in your particular neck of the woods. In phase two, you're going to identify the opportunities that will eventually define your business. At first, it will only be an inkling, a few ideas blowing in the wind. Something someone said tying up with something you know about. But seemingly out of nowhere, you'll come up with the idea, product or service that only you could have discovered. Looking back later, it will seem simple. You'll ask yourself: why didn't I think of that before? It's like the man who invented ice cream cones 2000 years after the invention of ice cream. It was just waiting for the right time to be invented.

3. Produce Something Special. Once you have your knowledge and your big idea, you now have to turn it into a product or service that people will queue up to buy. We're still on the upward curve of the roller coaster, which is defined as hard work, with no money coming in but plenty of money going out. But don't worry. Remember the cyclical nature of the trip you're on. If you stay on board, it will come. Phase three's theme is partnerships. OK, you may be able to develop a great product on your own, but the chances are you need someone else to help you. Ferret these people out. Make sure they share your dreams. And work together to produce something special that nobody's created before.

4. Work Like Hell and Advertise. Up till now, there's only been a steep hill ahead of you. It's been like climbing Everest, with no apparent end in sight. But, now, with your product created, you might just be able to glimpse the summit ahead. But don't get ahead of yourself. There's still a lot of work to do. The final uphill phase is about marketing yourself to your customers. If your business is an Internet business, it means working non-stop to create a marketing-oriented website, offering great content, building joint ventures, publishing articles that enhance your expertise, and advertising. If you want some good advice in this phase, take a leaf out of the book of the billionaire media mogul, Ted Turner, whose recipe for success was: "Early to bed, early to rise; work like hell and advertise."

5. Establish Working Systems. The fact is that everything up to this point has been hard graft. OK, I know there are satisfying moments on the uphill curve, but let's face it, you're in business to make money not spend it. Well, the good news is, that, if you've researched your market, developed your idea, created great products, and marketed till you're blue in the face, things are now going to change. Instead of Money Out, it's going to be Money In. Instead of being predominantly active, your role is going to be predominantly passive. Instead of pushing the carriage up the hill, you can now get in and enjoy the ride downhill. Of course, it doesn't mean you have nothing to do. On the contrary, you need to establish systems that ensure you run your home-based business like a proper business, even if you're still in the garage or bedroom. And that includes systems to collect and account for the money coming in. But who knows? You might even be able to pay yourself a wage!

6. Deliver Excellent Customer Service. We're now racing down the downhill curve of our roller coaster on the last phase. There's a good chance that, while the uphill phase seemed painfully slow, the downhill phase is exactly the opposite: fast, chaotic, and out of control. Your one focus in this phase is on your customers. Whereas in the uphill phase, there was just you and the dog for company, you now have people knocking on your door at all hours of the day and night. You're in demand. Your response must be to deliver outstanding customer service to everyone who wants a bit of the action. That way, if you want, you'll come up with an idea or proposition that will start off the whole roller coaster journey all over again!

YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL!

Whether it's EBay reselling, Google adwords, affiliate programs, reselling cd roms, rewriting ebooks or whatever, you've probably seen it or bought it. I suppose I am completely gullible because I have fallen for pretty much all of them. This month I finally sat down and decided to take a realistic look at all the pure crap that's out there promising to make you rich.

If there's even a slight chance that you can make money at somthing, somone will write an ebook and claim that you can make a bundle at it at home in your undies.

What I found is that every single program I purchased, from the $9.95 ebook to the $350 binder were mostly recycled filler material. There is literally nothing that 99% of the ebooks on the Internet can teach you that you don't already know or could learn for free.

There is one ebook on the Internet that sells quite well by a man who claims to make millions every year online. For $97 he'll show you exactly how to do it. No B.S. Interested? So was I. I bought it. Another good chunk of cash down the drain.

Well at least you can benefit from my mistake and listen to what I learned from this phony "millionaire". Here is a direct excerpt from his ebook on how to make a lot of money selling your own informational product: "Notice the top 10 selling products...These things sell. So don't reinvent the wheel. Make a similar site, make it look better, sound better, and price it lower." Now listen to this part: "I always make a killer website that sells. And you can give people hope in many ways with many different products, but I find it most effective with informational products because somehow you can get away with practically promising the world, and then under-delivering. You are basically telling people what they want to hear."

Here's someone who sells ebooks and other digital products online admitting that he promises the world and then under delivers as a standard practice. Oh did I mention that he also wants you to resell his worthless ebook as an affiliate?

Is there no hope for making a decent profit on the Internet? It seemed that way to me, especially after reading so much expensive garbage. But I did find something that really gave me a sense of hope again. One day a couple of months ago I stumbled on something called E-Currencies investing and exchanging. 'Oh great, another stinking scam', I thought. But the more reading I did, the more I began to regain a sense of hope that there really was a great way to make income online. I found forums where real people were doing this as though it were nothing new. I found a training company with a real phone number and called it and got an actual person on the phone! This was different.

So, I took the plunge. I purchased their (rather expensive) course at and went for it. I invested what was left in a stock market account that had gone south – around $2,000 into the system. You can actually get started with as little as $50-$100 but I wanted a head start. The business is to join a network of people that converts one type of Internet based currency to another form for a fee. Apparently Internet based currencies like E-Gold have become enormously popular internationally.

Each day I administered my portfolio of E-Currencies as I had been taught and each day it grew. About two months latter, my portfolio is now up to just over $10,000.00. I didn’t gamble my money because this is not stock or commodities or any other securities investing. So your portfolio does not go down. It only goes up at different rates.

I had finally made some money on the Internet. And the best part was that I didn’t have to sell anything or place a single ad or even compete with another person. A lot of people hear about this market and call it a scam because it sounds too good to be true. I don’t blame them, but I don’t really care what they think because I’m finally profitable.

The conclusion? Do yourself a favor and quit falling for all those lame ebooks and programs. Find a real online business and quit trying to get rich over night. Maybe E-Currencies are your ticket, maybe not. The training program that I used is at www.dxprofessional.com. Their program is not cheap, but as we’ve learned here, you can’t get into a new profitable business online by buying a $97 ebook from some fake “millionaire”.

Whatever you do, I wish you the best success and next time, think twice before pushing the buy button on that ebook promissing to make you rich.

The Lessons The Homeless Taught Me About Marketing My Home Based Business by: Chris Stirling

Like so many people in North America I live in a city that has too many people living on the streets and who are homeless or in need of financial assistance. So often these people approach me asking for "spare change" or "help". I always just ignore these request and continue on my way, except yesterday.

Yesterday I had an eye opening moment, actually 2 moments, that happens every so often. You see I was minding my own business walking along the sea wall in my home city. I just happened to be walking behind a person asking for "spare change" from every person he encountered on the sea wall. He was not very successful as most people just pretended they did not hear the request or even see him. But, every 20th person, or so, he would encounter a receptive individual who would indulge in his request for "spare change". This man taught me 2 lessons:

1 - Be consistent with your messaging. I'm sure this man did not do much scientific testing but he did believe in the message of "spare change" and he delivered his message to every person he encountered with confidence that it would be successful eventually. I realized I could do the same with my marketing message. Instead of having multiple marketing ads out there I should find a message that works and run with it.

2 - Every "no" gets you closer to a "yes". This man was never deterred by a person ignoring him or a "no". He just continued on, knowing that eventually he would receive a "yes". I realized this is the same for my business. Not everybody will be interested in my home based business opportunity or products and that is OK. If I believe in my message, eventually I will encounter someone who is.

Later that day I was driving home and I noticed another homeless man standing at a very busy stop light intersection holding a cardboard sign asking for help. As I was sitting there waiting for my light to turn green watching every 7th or 8th car hand him some change I realized this man also taught me 2 lessons about marketing:

3 - A captive audience is valuable. This man realized that standing on the side of the road was no good for him because there was no foot traffic and the cars would not stop to read his story. Once he stood at the intersection he knew that people would be stopped at the location for a couple of minutes giving him time to have his message read and increasing his chances of receiving help. His message was more elaborate than the "spare change" request of the first man I encountered today. He was able to tell his story on the piece of cardboard and telling his audience why he needed assistance. This type of exposure is extremely valuable to this man. The increased exposure time resulted in him not receiving "spare change" but I saw people giving him paper money. I realized that I needed to get my message onto locations with a large captive audience to be successful.

4 -High traffic areas are worth the costs. This man did not choose any intersection to stand at, he chose one of the busiest ones in the city. I then remembered yesterday there was a man at this location but not the same person as today. In fact I have never been at this intersection without someone standing there with a sign asking for help. I am sure this location is difficult to secure but for the person who does get there first they will be rewarded. This is not a revelation but it can often be forgotten lesson. Often the high traffic locations can be more expensive or more difficult to secure, but if you are willing to do what it takes to get your message seen in this location you will receive the fruits of your hard work.

Today I gave "spare change" and "help" to two homeless men in my city and they both gave me lessons that were far more valuable. I saw these lessons in action with results I would be happy with in my own business and plan on putting them into action immediately!

Then set up trial periods and test a couple. Remember, no one is perfect. See who you can communicate with pretty easily and who’s flexible to work as a team player. Check out the quality (and quantity) of their work. Then choose a candidate. Remember, this decision is not carved in stone. And you can always hire the other person as a back up or second helper down the road. So be kind to all who test, make decisions and keep your business moving forward.

This is the first part of a series of articles touching on various aspects of publishing on the web. In this edition, we will dwell on the aspect of domain name and web hosting.

Domain Name
First, you need to register your domain name. FYI, a domain name is the location of your web site on the Internet, just like http://www.internetmarketinglearningcenter.com/.

You should have your own domain name if you envision yourself to be a successful Internet entrepreneur. BTW, the domain name you have registered with some free hosting services is not too professional to be used for your business operation. Unless you are on some form of an experiment, get your own domain name. The cost of getting one has considerably gone down than say five or two years ago.

People would take your product or service seriously if you do have your own domain name. There are a host of domain name registrars out on the Net for you to choose from.

Before you go out and register your domain name, check it out first if the domain name you are planning to register is still available. There are a number of free services to check the names of registered domain names on the web.

If you check my web site you will find a listing of better domain name checkers. It will save you a lot of time. Some of these free services offer domain name registration - for a fee, of course.

Web Hosting
After you have decided on - and subsequently registered - your domain name, the next big task is for you to find a host server to which your domain name will be pointing to.

The choice of your web site host is crucial enough to be left to guesswork. For one, a downtime in your host's server will severely impact your online operation. The profit returns of your business will be at stake.

Tip: You often come across an advertisement that says: "We guarantee 99.9% uptime." Come to think of it, a 0.1% downtime translates close to 9 hours within a year that your web site can not be accessed by your clients. Can you afford this? My advice is for you to do your math if a web host is giving you this type of advert.

Web Hosting Checklist
The following checklist will help you select a reliable and efficient web site host:

Does it offer 24/7 technical support?
Does it have a reliable performance record? (Go for the near zero per cent server downtime)
Does it offer a fast connection speed?
Does it offer a quick and easy access to your log files?
Are CGI scripts allowed for your package?
Is autoresponder services being offered?

Web Server Categories
There are three types of web hosting services you can categorize web servers. List down these three categories and put under the appropriate item the name of the web host you are evaluating. Two things worth checking are pricing and performance record of the web host.
Offhand, a web host could fall into three types, namely, cheap web hosting, affordable web hosting, and free web servers. For reasons already discussed above, you have to opt out the free web hosting type, if you want to make serious your Internet business venture.

If you belong to the 95 per cent of the computing population (i.e., Windows based), the best FTP program for you is still the WS-FTP software. You can download if for free from the web.
Most web hosts offer control panels where you can directly browse your file source and upload the files to the server. In this case, there's no need for you to use an FTP program.

Tip: Some web hosts offer state of the art control panels. Others have amateurish control panels. You have to choose between simplicity and time-consuming operation. My advice is for you to choose the easy to operate panel that offers hassle-free transferring of files.

Many surfers use the Google or Alexa bar that integrates into their web browsers which consequently makes it easier for them to search and navigate through Internet. However, how many have the “overall page rank” indicator on these bars which shows either a ranking or the importance of the page?

The overall page rank in directories like Google, Yahoo or Alexa is the key factor while doing a search. It decides which website or page deserves the top places in the results of the search of a keyword. The search engine basically calculates the importance of the webpage.

For example, let’s say that you prepared a webpage supplying the users with focused, detailed and understandable info. You think your page deserves a high importance, therefore when you search for the theme of your website, you believe it should be shown in the top 20. Well, sometimes life is cruel. If you don’t optimize your webpage for a specific keyword, if you don’t get enough inbound links directing the user to your site, you would be disappointed by the 1/10 importance rating in Google. Don’t give up! It’s still worth fighting for. There are several factors which decide the page rank of a website.

First of all, Internet is not like the streets of a city: if you put your “shop” in a busy street, people will drop by your place. No visit on Internet is a coincidence. You have to create your links from other sites (inbound links). You also have to increase the internal linking of your website so that visitors can just “hang around” in your site. So your first factor for the page rank is the linking of your page.

Secondly, pages which attract more users (i.e. number of unique daily users) are obviously more important in the “eyes” of the search engines. This, being the dependent variable in our equation, grows directly proportional to the inbound links. So, page rank also increases with the number of unique users.

At last, relative, focused content increases the importance of your page (page rank). Initially, every page you add to your site increases the overall page rank of the whole before you start adding in-context hyperlinks; “in-context” hyperlinks because according to Google authorities, the hyperlinks that you place inside the content of the page are accepted more valuable.

Briefly, on the web, there are no lucky days, no coincidences or no serendipities. If you want website traffic on your page, you have to create it yourself. You have to put quality, focused and original content, you have to increase the number of the inbound links. The website traffic on your site will increase automatically depending on the other variables. Finally, one day you will look at your site and see that the page rank has jumped from 1 to 4 or even higher. Then you will understand that “La vita e bella.”

Let's step back from the World Wide Web for a moment. In fact we're going to pretend it doesn't exist yet. Don't panic! Just trying to make a point here.
OK so you're sitting at your desk. You stare at the clock on the wall. It's almost five! Can't wait to get out of there and start the long commute home.
It's the week-end, so you have some time to think. You start to wonder what it would be like to run your own business. You've always wanted to work for yourself. Better still, to work from home.

What's stopped you up until now?

Money? Right. How many of us have funds to invest in starting our own company? Not every day people like you and I.

Time? Too true. We're too busy earning a living.

Products? Sure. Could just see the basement now. Stock piled to the ceiling with gizmos.
Back to the present we go. OK, now we're back online. Phew! Glad that part's over.
You've heard all about people making money on the Internet. You decide to give it a whirl. Everybody makes it sound so easy. You see one amazing opportunity after another.
Money is no longer a problem. It takes very little to get going on the web.
Time can be managed pretty efficiently thanks to automation.

Products galore are available. Ways to develop your own as well. You can even write an e-book.
So you jump right in. You sign up as an affiliate here, buy some e-books there. You sign up here, there and everywhere. You have a slew of great products with resale rights. You're promoting your web site. Not to mention writing your own e-book.

Before you know it you've spent money you didn't have.

Invested time with no results. Your family doesn't even set your place at the table anymore.
You're wondering what went wrong. You're discouraged and about to give up. Want a friendly word of advise? DON'T!

Let's just step back offline for a minute.

This is where so many people make a critical mistake. Yes you can start your online business with very little cash. Yes you can juggle an amazing multitude of tasks through automation. As far as products go, the sky's the limit.

Go ahead, alt tab between "online" and "offline" business worlds. You wouldn't attempt to venture into the offline business world without a plan. I mean the first step is a business plan, right? Why would it be any different for an online business?

The majority of small businesses fail because they fail to plan. Online or offline, period!
If you can relate to this, then don't fret. You started on track. Ok, so you took a bit of a detour. No biggie. Just consider it part of the development stage.

Get back on track today. Write a business plan and implement it.
Oh, and let's not forget one last thing. "Get rich quick" just won't cut it, online or off. That's why they're usually referred to as schemes.

When most of us dive into our first home business venture, we are filled with visions of wealth, comfort, security and freedom. We have a general idea of where we'd like to end up financially, and we work hard to get there. Some of us make it there quickly, while others may take a little longer. But at what point would we consider ourselves to be "successful?" Once we're earning a million dollars a year? Once we can afford that mansion we've had our eye on? Once we're wearing designer clothing? Of course, success means different things to different people.

Perhaps to you, success means earning a little extra money to help with household extras. To me it might mean earning more. To someone else, success might have nothing to do with money at all. They might strive for professional or personal accomplishments. The meaning of success can vary from person to person, as can our beliefs about what it takes to truly be successful.

I had an interesting experience last week. I submitted a request for work at home success stories to be featured on my website, and the response was quite surprising. Not one response. That's right, zero! I submitted this request to several popular work-at-home communities, and I purposely placed no restrictions on what "success" meant. I was quite surprised by the lack of response. Are there NO work at home successes out there? I don't believe that for a minute; I know there are many, MANY people working successfully from home. So why wouldn't they want to be featured? What could prevent them from believing they qualify as a "success story?"

Income - Many of us don't feel "successful" until we're raking in massive amounts of money and can afford to buy whatever we want without glancing at the price tag. While money is certainly one measure of success, it isn't the only one. Most of us have an idea of how much we'd like to be earning from our home businesses, but does it mean we're not successful until we reach that point? Of course not! We can be successful regardless of how much we earn. Just because you are earning $500 a month instead of $50,000 doesn't mean you're not a success. In order to earn $50,000, you must first earn $500!

Status - If we haven't quite reached the "level" we're striving for in our home businesses, we may not allow ourselves to feel like a success. "Once I get 1,000 customers, then I'll be successful," we say. Or once we get 100,000 subscribers to our newsletter, or hire our first employees. Whatever status we're trying to reach, we place requirements upon ourselves and won't consider ourselves successful until we meet them. The problem with this is that home businesses (or businesses in general) are not static. We don't just "get there" and then call it good. We will always be striving to gain more customers, recruit more agents, sell more products, earn more money, set goals and reach them. We will always be pushing ourselves to do more, be more. This is a good thing!

Perfectionism - We are so much harder on ourselves than we are on anyone else. Does one little thing keep you from feeling like a success? Perhaps you're earning as much as you want to with your home business, but there are also things you struggle with. Like organization, finances, or coming up with new ideas and seeing them through. Rather than thinking of yourself as successful, you allow those little things you don't do perfectly to hold you back. You berate yourself, "I would be successful if it wasn't for my messy filing system!" or "Will I ever learn how to do this right?" No one is perfect. We all have things we're good at, and other things we're not so good at. Accept that about yourself. It's really not important to do everything so perfectly. We can only do our best and have fun with it.

Modesty - It's true that no one likes a braggart. Perhaps the people who read my request didn't want to appear boastful or conceited by submitting a success story. While modesty is a good thing, is it possible to carry it too far? Does being modest mean we can't take pride in our own accomplishments? Does it mean we have to hide our success? No. There is a very big difference between sharing our success and bragging about it. Braggers try to make themselves appear better than others and put themselves up on a pedestal, while people who share their success in a genuine way strive to inspire others. By sharing our successes, we encourage people to make their own success stories! We demonstrate that it is indeed possible to be successful working from home. What a gift that is!

You may be surprised to learn the actual definition of Success: 1) a favorable result; 2) the gaining of wealth, fame, etc. Most of us use the second definition more often than the first. But take a close look at that first definition. A favorable result. How easy is it to attain a favorable result? Very! Just because your results may not be as large as you'd like them to be doesn't mean you're not successful. If you've attained ANY favorable results, you are a Success!

The most important aspect of success is believing we deserve it. So many of us struggle with worthiness issues. Some of us were told as children that we'd never amount to anything; we internalized that message and continue to carry it with us to this day. Others might be afraid to try because we've never felt quite "good enough." As soon as we start working toward our goals, self-doubts come creeping in and our inner critic starts harping at us: "Who are you kidding? You don't have what it takes to be successful. Just give it up and get a real job!" So we sabotage ourselves, create obstacles to block our way, and continue our never-ending quest for success.

The truth is, we will only be as successful as we ALLOW ourselves to be. The human mind has amazing power. Whatever we consistently tell ourselves is what we will create in our lives. If we don't believe we deserve success, we will avoid it (even though we trick ourselves into believing we're working toward it). If we tell ourselves we're not good enough, we will act in ways that prevent good things from happening to us. The good news is that this also works in reverse. If we tell ourselves we're successful, we will be. If we keep affirming that we're good enough, strong enough, capable enough, we will be. Think about the significance of that. It means it's ALL WITHIN OUR CONTROL. Whatever we want to be, we can.

Don't be afraid to embrace your success, no matter how small you perceive it to be. Remember, any favorable result equals Success!
